My Approach

You have a lot of choices when it comes to Denver professional photographers for your wedding. I’m really grateful you’ve made it here! I attend every wedding with YOU in mind: my main focus is to document your day as it unfolds. More than anything, as a professional photographer I make sure you’re present for the celebration around you—not away from your guests, taking photos for hours. We’ll work together as we move with you through your day. That way, we’ll create beautiful portraits in the right space, in all the right light, that don’t feel stiff and awkward—even when it comes to the big group photos. I’m not one of those photographers that scoff at “formal’ photos; I believe the folks that are important to you are important to photograph. That being said, I like to keep these photos fun and efficient to get you back to the party! I work with you ahead of time to make your photos flow with the day—seamlessly and effortlessly.

MY STYLE

I’m extremely passionate about photography and the way it creates a paper chain from our past. This still feels as magical as it did for me as a 13-year-old in the darkroom. As a professional photographer, I’ve chosen to create art that documents people’s life, love, and legacy and I aim to do so truthfully. I want you to recognize that real and raw connection—not only when you look through your photographs now, but in 50 years, too. I love finding those perfect pockets of light to create artistic images that highlight how extraordinary our everyday life really is. I watch to see how you move through the world, taking snapshots of your love in motion—because that’s what it’s all about. A glimpse of you with your person—or your people—in a moment in time that you have chosen to keep. I encourage folks to share the “what and where” that feels the most special to them. When I get to photograph you in your element—that’s when I’ll get the most honest and organic images.

WHAT'S IN A NAME

I attended a small art college in British Columbia where. After graduation, I felt on top of the world. I was co-running a gallery space called Plank, working on a project with the city to catalog all of the art spaces in our area. What’s more, I was constantly creating in our co-working/gallery space with 12 other artists as well as keeping a day job. Unfortunately, I missed the timing for some paperwork and my student visa would not be extended. So, I had to leave the city that had grown to love so much.

With a month pack up all of my stuff and say my goodbyes, I chose to do it through one last project. I borrowed a Hasselblad and took portraits of as many folks from my lovely little community as I could, given the tight timeline. In art school, I was mainly creating tableau work with crazy sets, so this body of work was different. Ultimately, it’s what led me to love photographing people.

This body of work was titled Friends & Lovers. It was shown the last night I had in Vancouver, alongside the photography of a friend of mine who was also moving to France. I can’t even begin to explain how incredible of a send-off it was. As I drove back to the States the next morning, I felt that somehow, someway, I wanted to carry that experience with me in whatever I ended up doing. One year later, my photography business Friends & Lovers Photography came to fruition.
